The Canadian Tuxedo

The Canadian Tuxedo, born in Vancouver, Canada, first worn by American Star Bing Crosby. The story goes that Bing was visiting Vancouver, Canada and was declined check-in at the Vancouver Hotel because the clerk that was helping him thought he looked disheveled. At the time, Bing was wearing Levi jeans and a denim jacket. His outfit of choice for the hunting expedition he had been on. Luckily, another hotel employee quickly recognized Bing and the situation was corrected, but news traveled fast of how the American star was declined service due to his outfit, his “denim tuxedo”. Levi’s saw this as a great opportunity to design an actual tuxedo made of denim for Bing. They presented this to him as a gift and he wore it with pride and as a playful jab at the incident that took place up in Vancouver. So, the “Canadian Tuxedo” was actually first worn by an American and was first ridiculed by a Canadian Hotel, how ironic.
The Canadian Tuxedo is a fun joke, but we have seen many celebrities rock it as well. One of the most famous tributes to the tux was when Justin Timberlake wore denim on denim while attending the 2001 American Music Awards. We have seen quite a few celebrities take a stab at all denim and somehow, when they wear it, it usually looks pretty good. To name a few others who have worn combination denim we have, Kate Hudson, J-Lo, Rihanna, Ryan Reynolds, Kayne West, Kim Kardashian, Gigi Hadid and the list goes on.
As we continue to strive to capture “Northern Culture '' we felt as though it would be a missed opportunity if we did not include a floatie that paid tribute to this quintessential outfit. So if you are dying to jump onto the Canadian Tuxedo trend but aren’t sure you can rock denim from head to toe, we have the float for you. Meet the “Canadian Tuxedo”, your way to float in true Northern fashion.
